Description

Thomas/Wright, Inc. (T/WI) prepared an engineering study of five sanitary sewer pump stations at the Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California.

The pump stations are approaching the end of their design life and even small amounts of rainfall result in overwhelming flows for the stations. Maintenance is difficult because of the aged infrastructure.

T/WI examined each pump station site to determine the cost effectiveness of supplementing the existing wet wells with new pumps and superstructure. This method will result in construction cost saving by minimizing excavation and below grade construction and avoiding potentially hazardous soils. The study and resulting report detailed the existing capacities of the pump stations and associated sewer lines, physical condition, and electrical controls of each pump station.

T/WI recommended replacement pumps, controls, enclosures and other improvements that were needed. T/WI completed the project within the scope and schedule for the study. Cost Estimates were also prepared for pump replacements.
